July 2009:
A letter to Maharashtra's chief minister Ashok Chavan sharply indicts the Dharavi Redevelopment Plan, the plans and suggestions of Mr. Mukesh Mehta and the presentations by several bidders. It raises critical issues about the impracticality of the plans and is signed by D M Sukthankar, A Jockin, Chandrasekhar Prabhu, Neera Adarkar, Sheela Patel, Sundar Burra, Vidyadhar Phatak, Shirish Patel, Arvind Adarkar and Anirudh Paul. All of them comprise a committee of experts that was appointed by the government itself. Since the committee has been saying what they are for a long time, but have been wilfully ignored, they have now circulated an open letter in this regard.
